Florence has long been known as one of the world’s art meccas. It is estimated that about 60% of the world’s art is in Italy, and of that, about half of them are in Florence! So do yourself a favor and do not leave this incredible city without seeing some incredible works of art. We’re making it easy for you.
Michelangelo’s The Florentine Pieta, also known as The Deposition
This beautiful classic is currently on display at Museo del Opera del Duomo, and the entrance fee for the museum is €6
The Dome of the Duomo of Florence, by Filippo Brunelleschi
This beautiful dome can easily be seen for free, however if you’d like to climb up the 463 steps to the cupola to get a better view, the admission is €8 and €11 for the museum.
Botticelli’s Birth of Venus
The Uffizi Gallery has many Botticellis, and Birth of Venus is an absolute must see. The admission cost is €18.50 and well worth it. If you happen to be in Florence on the first Sunday of the month, admission is free!
Leonardo da Vinci’s Annunciation
If it’s on your bucket list to see a da Vinci in person, you’re in luck! Annunciation is on display at the Uffizi Gallery, painted by da Vinci in the very early years of his artisitic career
Fra Angelico’s Annunciation
Another famous Annunication painting is on display at the Convent at San Marco, where admission is €4. The hours vary some, so be sure to check before you plan to go.
The Deposition from the Cross, Pontormo
Located in the Capponi Chapel in Santa Felicita Church, this mannerist painting by Pontormo is incredible. Admission to the church is, of course, free.
Madonna della Seggiola by Raphael
This beautiful painting of the Madonna and Child Christ is on display at Palazzo Pitti, Palatine Picture Gallery and the entrance fee is €8.50
Michelangelo’s David
Of course you could never go to Florence without seeing the David. We recommend a reservation when you’re going to Accademia to see it. Admission cost is €6
Procession of the Magi, Benozzo Gozzoli
This fully encompassing painting covers the walls of an entire room in th Medici Palace, a very amazing place to see. Admission to the Palace costs €7.
Cimabue’s Santa Trinita Maestà
This beautiful piece dates back to 1280. It is also on display at the Uffizi Gallery.
