October 27, 2014

Umbria real estate in Italy is becoming increasingly popular with the real estate moguls of the world. Handsome Properties International handles countless properties in Umbria, as well as the surrounding areas. Why has the spike in tourism increased recently though and what could one do when they get there?

Umbria: “The Green Heart” of Italy

Umbria is in the center of Italy and has many Etruscan sites and medieval hill towns. It is often referred to as “the green heart” of Italy because of its large, beautiful parks. Umbria is not only home to beautiful land features but is also home to some of Italy’s largest lakes and spectacular waterfalls. The cost of living is also considerably less than its neighbor, Tuscany, and has therefore become increasing popular for tourism.

Umbria Attractions

One of the most interesting sites in Umbria is in the town of Assisi. Assisi is well known for being the birthplace of Saint Francis, or San Francesco, the patron saint of Italy. The Saint Francis Basilica in Assisi holds the tomb of Saint Francis and is a popular tourist and pilgrimage destination. Assisi also offers ancient churches, Roman ruins, medieval sites, museums, and shops in its walled medieval center.

Another town not to miss is during your trip Perugia. The capital and largest town of Umbria, Perugia is a lively hill town with Etruscan and medieval roots. Perguia is well served by public transportation, making it a good base for exploring Umbria’s hill towns. The two most popular attractions are the world famous Jazz Festival and Chocolate festival.
