Traveling Through the Incredible Villages in the French Alpes

February 1, 2016

Take a Vacation in the French Alpes this Spring and walk through the valley of Breil, Saorge Village, and La Brigue

There are some wonders of the world that simply go unnoticed. Take the road less traveled this spring and sightsee through the beautiful mountains and hidden valleys of the French Alpes. After taking the train into the Provencal mountain villages, you’ll find yourself in a different world where terracotta roofs and church steeples are caved in by the gorgeous mountain ranges and touched by turquoise rivers flowing through the mountain pass. Three small mountain villages in the valleys of the French Alpes-maritimes; Breil, Saorge, and La Brigue offer an amazing experience to any traveler looking to enjoy breathtaking views and beautiful scenery.

This sightseeing adventure would be most applicable to walkers and hikers who enjoy walking through the mountains and exploring what most people never find in their daily lives. But for those who do not hike or do not walk leisurely, there are trains and cars to get across and around just as easily to enjoy breathtaking views off of the cliff side roads. The view of the gorgeous green mountain ranges surrounding the historic architecture of the villages in the valley look as surreal as the mountain tops seen in the film The Sound of Music.

Breil appears to be absolutely magical with the town’s beautiful landscaping surrounding the charming and rustic homes that are sitting right at the edge of a turquoise river. The restaurants are an experience like none has ever dined before with delicious meals from fresh fish caught in the river or homemade pasta dishes. The hotels are magnificent and the village streets are historic and beautiful to explore and shop. The land between these mountain ranges of the French Alpes was in fact originally Italian territory. The villages shown below are on territory that was passed back and forth in control by the French and Italian leaders from Napoleon’s reign up until World War 2. Both Italians and Parisians originate and reside in the charming and historic villages of the Aples-maritimes.

Saorge is a beautiful village found inland of the French Riviera in the Alpes-Coet-d’Azur region of France. Many travelers who visit France tend to go to the most famous cities of beautiful countries such as Paris and the region of the French Riviera. For those who enjoy visiting the world’s most popular cities and sights, try being open-minded to the small beautiful places that people don’t come to notice. There are hundreds of hidden treasures found all over the world outside these popular cities that are most traveled to. Saorge is just one of the many hidden gems of the French Alpes with culture, history, charm, and stunning beauty.

The colorful sights and incredible views found in Saorge in the woods areas are from the elegant lavender flowers, colorful fruit growing from the trees, and the most delicate and appreciated edelweiss growing in the grass. The church structures and 15th century medieval home structures are filled with historic artwork and capture the essence of the culture and design that climb up the hillside in the village of Saorge. Located very close to the border of Italy, Saorge is mostly a pedestrian area due to its steep hill position. The village enjoys many incredible views along the breathtaking backdrop of the mountains and the valley.

The village of La Brigue is as charming as it appears in the picture! It is a small and beautiful mountain village alongside a glistening river and valley stream. The village is located in an area set off like a dead-end from the highway pass of the Provencal mountain regions, so it usually goes unnoticed. With it’s beautiful stone houses and colorful buildings, the surrounding landscape and walls of the mountains and valleys make this an unbelievable sight. La Brigue is also filled with ancient churches including the beautiful Chapel Saint Michael and the colorful Chapel St. Martin. The cafes` and dining experience are welcoming and delicious, and the water to drink is pure and amazing.

Some pictures are just what the true meaning of the big picture really is. These three villages hidden in the mountains and valleys of the Alpes are captured by a camera, or are told by those who have gone to see for themselves and shared their experience on the Internet. In all honesty and encouragement, these images appear to be one of the few pictures that lead you to believe these are just too beautiful and have to be seen in person.

For the next vacation you may decide to take, look into traveling to the Provencal area of France to the French Alpes maritime to see the extraordinary villages of La Brigue, Saorge, and the magnificent Beril su roya.
