Welcome to Heredia

Set in the foothills of the Barva Volcano, Heredia is one of the northwest provinces of Costa Rica. Heredia Province, Costa Rica real estate ranges from countryside estates to inner-city homes. Buyers can look forward to homes with private guest houses atop highlands and miles' worth of views.

The province’s capital is of the same name, and is known as a hub for students from both Costa Rica and abroad. The National University of Costa Rica calls the capital city home, and offers both undergraduate and master’s degrees across various fields.

The province is also a major tourist destination during the dry season, famed for its cascading waterfalls and soaring volcano peaks. The ranging elevation in the Braulio Carrillo National Park forms levels of tropical rainforest, with cloud forests found at the highest of altitudes.

Real Estate in Heredia, Costa Rica

Whether you opt to live in the province’s capital, near the many gardens of the City of Flowers, or extend out to one of the neighboring cantons, real estate in Heredia, Costa Rica is in the midst of some of the world’s most outstanding natural sights. The biodiversity and tropical climate, coupled with the volcanoes and sprawling fields, create a landscape unlike any other.

Districts of Heredia

With most Heredia towns concentrated in the southern parts of the province, it’s easy to visit the different districts and to find the perfect home within a short distance from the amenities of the capital. One such example, the town of Barva, was one of the first towns colonized—the settlement can be dated to 1561—but it has maintained a strong cultural identity over the centuries.

While some towns are recognized for their inner-city access, the San Isidro canton is coveted for its rural real estate. With a local economy stemming from coffee plantations, the area and its homes are characterized by the lush fields and rolling hills that climb to the top the extinct Barva Volcano, in Braulio Carillo National Park.
