Valentine’s Day In Paris: Paris Date Ideas

January 8, 2014

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and now is the time to start planning your romantic getaway to Paris! What better way to spend this holiday than with the one you love in the most romantic city in the world?

Spending a week in a luxury apartment in Paris will give you a glimpse into Parisian life and the chance to live like a local! We have compiled a list of unique date ideas that won’t break the bank and are must for any Paris trip.

Have a Picnic Under the Eiffel Tower

Nothing says Paris like the Eiffel Tower! A lot of travelers forget that you don’t have to dine at the fancy restaurant in the tower to enjoy the monument. The Champs des Mars Park offers more than enough green space to throw out a blanket and have a delicious picnic. Around the park, you will find boulangeries, little bakeries, offering food and delicacies to take-away.

Walk Up the Eiffel Tower Stairs

After lunch, head up to the top of the Eiffel Tower to enjoy breath-taking views of the city. For about 4 euros, you can walk up the Eiffel Tower stairs and the line is shorter too! The 669 step climb will almost certainly test your fear of heights, but it makes the experience fun and exhilarating. Once you get to the top, enjoy the view of Paris with your date and don’t forget to take pictures!

Visit Montmarte

Montmarte was once a playground for 19th century artists such as Van Gogh and Renoir. This area is a perfect place to grab lunch and then visit the Sacré-Cœur Basillica to take in another of the best views of the city. From the top of the steps, you can see the entire metropolis with the Eiffel Tower in the distance. While you’re there, visit fun and quirky museums such as the Van Gogh Museum, the Edith Piaf Museum, and the Museum of Montemarte itself. As there is no harm in dreaming, you can also check out some of the beautiful apartments for rent in Paris, as Montmartre has some of the most incredible architecture in the whole city.

Vin Chaud on the Seine

For a cozy date idea, why not grab a cup of warm spiced wine and walk along the Seine? During the winter months, the streets of Paris are filled with vendors selling spiced wine (Vin Chaud) and roasted chestnuts (Marrons Chaud) for about 4 Euros each. The aroma of roasted chestnuts floats through the streets and mixes with the vin chaud, sending you instantly into food heaven.

Bateaux Mouches

What better way to see Paris than cruising along the River Seine in a river boat, taking in the sights. Boat rides are about 10 Euros/person and last about 20-30 minutes. If you go at dusk, you can see the Eiffel Tower light up for the first time at night and the crowds of people oo-ing and aw-ing will have you feel as if you’ve stepped into a magical parallel universe.

Visit the Top Floor of Louis Vuitton

Shopping at the Flagship Louis Vuitton Store on the Champs Elysees is expensive but that doesn’t mean you can’t browse! Take the elevator to the third floor where all of the bags are under a glass case. Service associates must wear white gloves while presenting the bags in the most delicate manner. Bags in the case start at around €30,000! If this isn’t enough to soothe your luxury desires, check out the impressive array of property for sale in Paris, as the Champs Elysées is home to the most luxurious real estate in the continent.

Thrift Store Hop

After you’ve seen the crème de la crème in Haute Couture at Louis Vuitton, delve into a more retro side of shopping with Paris’ many thrift stores. You are your date can try on funky hats and oversized fur coats and escape to any era you choose!

This great article has a long list of vintage stores not to miss!

Get a Museum Pass:

Visiting the Louvre and Musée d’Orsay are absolute musts when visiting Paris but the entrance fees can add up quickly with entry to each museum between 10-20 euros. Buy a museum pass and have unlimited access to over 60 museums and monuments including Versailles. A 2 day pass is 42 euros and a 4 days pass is 56 euros. For more information visit: website.

Have Coffee at the Famous Les Deux Margots

This infamous café is located in the 7th arrondissement on 6 Place Saint-Germain des Prés and was founded in 1812. The Deux Margots became a regular hang out spot for famous authors such as Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre and artists Albert Camus and Pablo Picasso. The coffee here is so good that you will be heading straight to the France visa application line. If you don’t believe us, grab a table outside with your Valentine, order a café au lait and enjoy the people watching. Street music is normally played in the square across the street outside of the oldest church in Paris, the Eglise Saint Germain des Prés.

Have a Candlelight Dinner at Au Clos Des Gourmet

For your final date with your Valentine, splurge a little at one of the most charming restaurants in Paris, Au Clos des Gourmets. Located on 16 Avenue Rapp precisely one block from the Eiffel Tower, Au Clos des Gourmets offers a variety of French specialty dishes such as rabbit, rotisserie chicken and bien sûr, escargots.
