Located hillside next to Paris, Montmartre is packed full of history, gastronomy, and truly is the epitome of the francophone culture. What many people are not aware of, however, are the many hidden and beautiful walkways that surround this district of Paris as well as what lays on them. This large hill, located in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, use to be home to a multitude of artists during the impressionistic period, including Renoir, who famously painted Le Bal du Moulin de la Galette while sitting on a café aside the walkways of Montmartre.
The history of Montmartre is something worth exploring, only observable to the well-trained eye, and of course, the locals who inhabit this gorgeous hillside region. The area use to be bustling with families, singers, dancers, and artists. Packed filled with people who were often found eating, drinking, and painting on the walkways of Montmartre. It was known as a lively place and still draws inspiration from what is known as the impressionistic era through its bright and robust atmosphere. There was a heavy sense of energy and motion going on through the streets of Montmartre. The hillside region is not what it use to be, however, still retains its enchantment, beauty, and of course, stunning sights, nevertheless a great place to explore.
Needless to say, Montmartre is a place with great beauty still preserved by some of its architectural gems. When walking amongst the walkways of Montmartre one will find some of its old windmills still peaking over the shorter buildings and luscious green trees. Within the hillside village, even most of the gardens are restored to the natural appearance that was maintained to that of the 19th century landscaping. The historical and archaeological association in Montmartre, Le Vieux Montmartre, has renovated and restored much of the area from windmills, to gardens, and even to one of the oldest buildings in the village, converted into the Musée de Montmartre. The building was originally a 17th century mansion that housed some of the greatest artists, including Renoir himself.
Upon looking at some of the different parts of Montmartre, one will find some of the most luxurious streets that are inspired by art deco and filled with gorgeous mansions, and english-style brick houses. Montmartre is certainly an inspiration of art and decor when it comes to inspiring the senses. The Musée de Montmartre boasts a well-known cafe, named after Renoir himself, overlooking newly restored gardens that were inspired by some of Renoirs paintings. The café and museum have their own beautiful tea room and historic grounds to wonder on. Amongst many restaurants and areas to eat, there are also some amazing boutique hotel-mansions that are even popular amongst some movie stars. The Hôtel Eden, one of the most famous in Montmartre has its own gourmet restaurant and lively cocktail bar. The grounds are even lined with a gorgeous avenue of lush gardens.
When it comes to international travel and hidden spots, Montmartre is definitely a well hidden treasure. Guided tours through the walkways of Montmartre, brunch at local cafés, and artistic endeavors through an impressionistic mind-frame, this are is packed with a multitude of great eateries, sights, art museums, and a plethora of inspiration that has since been safeguarded through the years but still slightly touch with a modern day feel. The hidden walkways of Montmartre are truly a wonder for one to come see!
