The cuisine while varied, almost always features local ingredients like seafood, produce, pork and olives. Marche residents also host some lovely annual celebrations like the Rossini Opera Festival in August, Fano Jazz by the Sea, and the International Piano Competition in Senigallia.
 
If you visit during July and August, be sure not to miss the Sferisterio Opera Festival in Marche's capital of Macerata. Each year they put on popular performances of three to four operas.

  • Within the last 30 years the economy of the region has gone through a complete transition, without discarding its rural heritage. Many of the small artisan workshops, which have always been found throughout rural areas in Marche, have been modernized and become small businesses. Some of these small businesses have become major worldwide names, known all over the world. This phenomenon has led to the appearance of dedicated economic areas: footwear and leather goods the provinces of Macerata and Fermo; furniture in the Pesaro area; household appliances and textile industry in the province of Ancona. Marche continues to be a destination for tourists, whose multiplying numbers can be attributed to the rich cultural heritage of Marche, shown off by its history, monuments and numerous museums.
